my bedroom, my sanctuary

they say the best way to get to know someone is by looking at their bedroom.

in which other situation do we have so much freedom to express our creativity, our personalities, our most cherished, prettiest possesions?

the millésime girl adores things of old, of days gone past. take inspiration from the feminine and the classic when decorating your bedroom; your sanctuary. reject harsh, modernist décor and replace with softer, lovlier furnishings. pastel colours, pretty little trinkets, and, of course - florals, florals, everywhere.

some inspiration; enjoy.

vases of flowers were a staple in 19th century homes, they add that vintage feel and an element of loveliness to your bedroom which cannot be created by anything else. a must-have.

floral teacups are also another definitive point. you can pick them up incredibly cheaply from charity stores such as the salvation army. display on your bedside table or dresser - they can either be left empty or used to hold jewellery.

pretty little vintage mirrors, a stand out item.

white furniture. nothing against wooden, but white makes a room instantly more brighter, cleaner and complements a pastel-toned room to no end.

poster beds. add an element of intricacy and beauty to a room, and again re-enforce a vintage tone.

floral wallpaper. absolutely gorgeous, but avoid if you also have a floral bedspread. floral wallpapers look adorable when paired with a plain white bedspread, and vice versa.

silk and floral cushions. stick to pastel colours, especially pinks.

who are we?

millésime
n. vintage, classic.

what makes a millésime girl? what defines her?

some of my favourite excerpts from the millésime blog at http://www.bebo.com/vintageadoration.

florals, bows, buttons, frills, teacups, rosy cheeks and red lipstick
you steal your grandfathers oversized cardigan
you love lacy dresses, button earrings, & you prefer porcelain skin to a fake orange glow
you wear brooches brought from charity stores
proper spelling and pronunciation, tea parties & gardens
you like to sit outside in the grass, and cruise the country lanes on your bicycle
your clothes are eclectic and mainly thrifted
you drink your tea from antique cups decorated with floral patterns
your copies of vogue, NYLON and ELLE are strewn about your bedroom
you like to read interesting books and learn about the world
you adore bright red lipstick, grey cardigans and pearl necklaces
on your hands you wear red nailpolish and a ring your grandmother gave you
you're always wearing perfume - a classic, floral scent that reminds people of you
long pearl necklaces, flowers in your hair, strolling through charity shops and buying odd things that no one else in the world will have...
